When anglerfish mate, they mate for life. The Male, a diminuative little fish living in absolute darkness of the Abyssal Zone, sees a tantalizing light in the distance. Approaching hopefully, he spots Her, and the courtship begins.
If She accepts him, he bites onto her flesh, and they begin to fuse. He withers away and becomes dependent on her bloodstream to provide nutrients and oxygen. He gives himself to Her, completely, and in exchange She uses His reproductive material to create a new generation, deep in the darkness where the sun has never shone.
This work is a five-layer reduction print. The block is carved away between each layer as successively darker colors are applied, until the final layer is laid down. No more prints can be made of this work, as the block is destroyed in the process.
